Easier bug reporting

Please consider improving the bug reporting workflow. Currently, I try to describe in words via an issue ticket the steps needed to reproduce a bug and the expected result, and the issue ticket requires the bug report to be tied to a file or object.

Instead, please consider a way to capture video within the platform for bug reporting.

For example, I’m seeing a bug in Monocle, that honestly I wasn’t going to report due to other priorities, but it’s a good example where I wish I could’ve natively recorded a 5 second screen grab in Foundry to report it to Palantir. In Monocle, the Expand → Expand All (“>>”) is not expanding nodes beyond an OSv2 Materialization dataset. This contributed to a stale data issue where we first checked the impact of deleting a column from a dataset by using Monocle’s Expand All from a dataset, noted all object types that were then visible, and then deleted the column and updated those object types’ configurations. This broke a downstream object type that was using that column because the Expand All didn’t show nodes beyond the OSv2 Materialization.

Thanks for sharing this suggestion! Users can add attachments when submitting Issues, so that would allow to include screenshots or screen recordings. Would that solve the need?

That would help. When I previously uploaded a screen recording, there was a bug, and the help desk was unable to open the attached screen recording:

The helpdesk can only receive certain file types. We will clarify this in the UI so that it’s clear for users what they can and cannot upload!
