Hello,
I would like to suggest a quality-of-life improvement for application builders, specifically regarding the creation of Object Views or Master-Detail dashboards.
1. The Pain Point (Builder UX) When building an Object View (where the context is inherently a single “Active Object”), the default “Property List” widget is very fast to set up but often lacks the visual impact and ergonomics required for executive dashboards. Builders prefer using “Metric Cards” to display key KPIs. However, the current workflow is extremely repetitive. For every single property we want to display, the builder must:
-
Go to the Variables panel.
-
Create a new scalar variable (Extract property value from the Active Object).
-
Add a Metric Card widget to the layout.
-
Link the scalar variable to the card.
2. The Use Case Example In our current project, we have an Object Type called Tool Usage Statistic which aggregates data for tools. It contains multiple KPIs: vg_quantity, max_quantity, stddev_quantity, first_usage_date, and last_usage_date… To display these vital metrics nicely at the top of an Object View, a builder wastes several minutes performing the exact same tedious click-path 6 times.
3. Proposed Solutions To significantly speed up dashboard creation, we suggest one of two approaches:
-
Option A (Widget-level solution): Introduce a new “Metric Card Grid” widget. It would take a single Object (or an Object Set of size 1) as input, allow the builder to multi-select properties from a dropdown, and automatically generate a responsive grid of Metric Cards for those properties.
-
Option B (Variable-level solution): Add a quick-action button in the Variables panel for Active Objects / Single Objects: “Extract selected properties as scalar variables”. This would bulk-create the variables in one click, ready to be consumed by widgets.
This feature would drastically reduce time-to-value for builders and encourage the creation of more beautiful, user-friendly Object Views rather than relying on standard Property Lists.
Thank you for considering this enhancement!
