Full LaTeX Capabilities in Notepad

We are using Notepad in a major project and encountered significant limitations with the current LaTeX support. Currently, Notepad only allows a few special characters, severely restricting technical or structured content creation.

We request the implementation of full LaTeX support in Notepad, focusing on:

  • Expanded LaTeX capabilities: Full rendering of mathematical formulas, tables, symbols, references, etc.
  • Integration with existing widgets: LaTeX content should coexist with current widgets (tables, text boxes, etc.) without limitations.
  • Seamless editing experience: Smooth transitions between regular text, widgets, and LaTeX blocks without conflicts.

Example use case:
Allow the user to import a full LaTeX document into Notepad, automatically generating the formatted content. After import, the document should remain editable, and users should be able to add properties, widgets, and additional formatting freely on top of the imported LaTeX content.

Expected impact:
Enhances flexibility and professionalism in document creation, especially for technical users, while preserving Notepad’s existing interactive features.

Thank you for considering this request! We are happy to discuss further or participate in beta testing.

Hi @rezenv, thanks for the feedback! We will track this feedback internally along with other existing feedback to make the existing LaTeX widget more expressive.

Also leaving a few questions:

  1. Could you clarify what you mean by Integration with existing widgets? What limitations are you running into here?
  2. Could you expand on what you mean by Seamless editing experience? What conflicts are you running into right now with the current editing experience?

The example use case you provided should be possible if you set up a Notepad template with a LaTeX widget configured to a template input. After generating a Notepad document from the template, the user should be able to add additional widgets in the generated document, and make changes to the LaTeX widget.
