Granting Additional Permissions to a Group on Top of Defaults

I have a space where I selected a custom rule set for Project role set. All permissions are inherited from the “Project defaults”, and I changed the Workshop permissions to view-only (removed all other permissions).

Everyone can view the workshop modules but cannot make edits. Now, I want to grant edit permissions to a specific group. How can I do that?

No matter what I try, it always inherits the role sets defined at the space level.
