How can I delete a marking category?

I know there is a warning that a marking category cannot be deleted once created, but I’m wondering a) why this is the case and b) whether there are any workarounds?

Hi! Any data marked with a deleted marking will be irrevocably lost. We don’t allow marking deletion to prevent users from losing data this way.

That makes sense thank you! Are there any known workarounds since the marking isn’t actually in use?

Also FWIW the UI for creating a marking category and creating a marking looks nearly identical so it’s not too difficult for a user to make this mistake
