Is it possible to trigger an Action "automatically" whenever a text field is filled, in Workshop?

I have an action type, and this action takes a string.

At some point, in one Workshop application, I have a text field that the user fills. Once the text is filled in a specific way (e.g. regex matching) then I want to have an action to trigger automatically.

Is it possible ?

I think you could achieve that by using a React Widget Set in Workshop.

2 Ideas:

  1. The React Widget Set could hold your input field and then whenever there’s text you just submit the Action via React. That should work for sure

  2. Maybe your React Widget Set does not even need to hold your input field. Maybe you can just pass it the variable of your input field and whenever in the React Widget Set it notices a change of this variable it submits the action. (So no user interface, the React widget would just give you the possibility to submit the action automatically)

The unfortunate thing about the custom widget solution is, that it will not be action type agnostic. Meaning you would need to create a individual custom widgets for every different action type you want to call.

It wouldn‘t be as first class as the „action“ option on the native button/metric card widget, where you can just select whatever action type you want to call.
