Is there a keyboard shortcut that I can use to bind a USB button to the microphone option to talk to AI FDE? I was recently inspired by a setup using a USB foot pedal to talk to Claude Code.

No native shortcut for mic/voice in AI FDE, but the workaround is simple:

  1. Program your USB button to send a keystroke (e.g. F13)
  2. Map that key to your OS dictation toggle (macOS: System Settings → Dictation; Win11: Win+H)
  3. Click into the AI FDE input field, press your button, speak, done.

The text lands directly in the input field.

I wish it was that simple, but nothing happens when I press Win+H due to my work laptop’s configuration. I think they somehow block Windows from downloading the English voice package:

Feature request: Please consider a keyboard shortcut to talk to AI FDE.

I usually just speech to text in another AI app like translate or ChatGPT and then copy paste to AI FDE. Or I use the built in dictate, but usually this required editing.
