Notepad Rich Text Capability

We are using notepad for a use case with a significant customer, and we are unable to properly format content in Notepad, which doesn’t look professional. Addition of rich text typesetting capability would add great value to this product and make many customers happy.

LATEX: Currently, Latex only supports special characters. I think, adding full Latex capability would be easier to implement and maintain for developer team. This would exponentially improve Notepad, which very much have become a core product feature with many of my customers.

Rich Text Capability:

  1. Full font capability e.g. font size, typeset etc.
  2. Customisation line and paragraph spacing
  3. Tabs, guttering, indentation and typesetting similar to Word
  4. Tables: Currently table features are very limited e.g. row / column merge, line colour, line width, cell colour
  5. Basic drawing capability e.g. square, rectangle, oval, circle, line etc.
  6. Add page column feature is buggy at the moment: If you divide a page in 2-3 columns, text doesn’t flow from left right. It flow within its column from one page to other. It should ideally flow from left side to right.
  7. Page orientation. Currently you can,t set orientation of one page. Its all or none.
  8. Footer: if you add any text in footer alongside page X/Y. Then both appear on different lines. There is no way to force both on one line similar to other rich text formatting tools.

Quick addition - professionalism yes, we’ve also had clients who can’t get the formatting they need to meet some governance requirements to use the docs in onwards workflows.
We can write a full python output but it’s pretty heavy handed - would love to be able to generate these in a quicker and easier to maintain way.

Thanks for submitting these feature requests! We’ve been tracking demand for several of the features you listed and I’ve added your +1 to our internal tickets so we can prioritize appropriately.

Note that while changing fonts is not yet supported, it is possible to set the font size for a given line of text from the toolbar to the left of the bold/italic/underline options.

Grateful thanks @gblake !

Could you please consider promoting ‘Full LATEX integration’ feature, with priority. This would enable almost all of our customers’ use cases. I know other features might take time. Latex being open source, it should just require integration, and there is less effort needed to maintain it on ongoing basis.
