TLDR: let users export object explorer “explore tab” to notepad
I have found that non-technical business users love, and I mean love object explorer, especially when data access within an organization is low.
It’s the most user friendly data exploration tool on the market – they can ask infinite questions of the business and it takes 0 “extra” dev time to build (if you set up your Ontology right). Workshop boxes you in to exactly what you’re seeing/you can’t ask new questions, and contour requires a lot of time and data knowledge to build reports.
As we were training our company this week it was clear that object explorer is very isolated within the platform. I know that you can “save” object explorer lists and views for yourself & to share but our users really wanted to be able to “export” their object explorer views into a notepad that they could then print and share with clients. I.e. a clear view of the data they were looking at (ie the filters applied) and the charts/stats that they generated. This would make make object explorer the easiest report generation tool on the market. Object explorer is fabulous for answering questions but really bad for sharing your findings (you can’t annotate anything, put a date on it, but your own branding on it etc).
I think this significantly increase the ability for users to self service (& decrease delta time), why build 10 workshops when you can get people to use object explorer!
